The "safety" and "advanced training" boat licenses are INFORNAV specialties, with the goal of better mastering vessel handling and addressing various onboard safety issues.

These are concepts that are not covered during the coastal pleasure boating license exam, commonly referred to as the boat license.

Regulation-wise, the law requires 2 hours of practical training at the helm of a boat for obtaining the coastal pleasure boating license.

These two hours at the helm will be used to master the following topics:

• Port departure/entry

• Alignments from the front/rear

• Taking a mooring

• Anchoring

• Rescuing a person overboard

• …

But it must be acknowledged that 2 hours at the helm is quite little to fully master the various topics covered, to gain true self-confidence, and many of you would love to spend more time maneuvering during this "practical part," learning through real and beautiful coastal navigations, spending more time onboard, using navigation tools, calculating tide heights, and much more...
